What is grab hire?

Grab hire refers to the rental of specialist lorries (known as grab trucks) which are used to pick up and clear away waste. Grab lorries have a hydraulic arm equipped with a bucket attachment. This arm is used to scoop up waste (sometimes from hard to reach areas). The waste is then loaded into the truck and taken away to a recycling facility or waste management centre to be sorted and processed.
What is grab hire used for?

Grab hire can be useful in many different situations. Grab lorries are regularly used to remove waste from commercial or construction sites. They are also used a lot for landscaping jobs, where large amounts of garden waste and soil need to be removed from an area.

That being said, grab hire is useful for non-commercial endeavours, too! For example, if you’re undertaking home improvements you might find yourself with a lot of waste to get rid of. In cases where skip hire isn’t suitable, hiring a grab truck to come and remove your waste is a quick and efficient way to get rid of waste without any heavy lifting.
What type of waste can a grab truck pick up?

Our grab hire services are great for removing a wide range of waste materials including soil, rubble, hardcore, bricks, garden waste, and general non-hazardous waste.
What type of waste can’t a grab truck pick up?

We are unable to remove some forms of hazardous waste with our grab hire services, such as asbestos, oil, batteries, tyres, fridges, and gas bottles.

In many cases, if you need to dispose of this kind of waste, we have a service for it. For example, we can safely dispose of asbestos through our asbestos waste disposal service.
How much waste can a grab lorry take?

Our grab trucks can transport approximately 16 tonnes of waste per grab. However, should you need multiple grabs to dispose of all of your waste, please let us know and we would be happy to arrange this for you.
How long does a grab lorry take to load?

How long a grab lorry takes to load depends on how much waste there is and where it is located. Thanks to its hydraulic arm and bucket attachment, grab trucks are very good at reaching tricky areas, and once in situ loading the waste onto the truck is quite quick.

On average it will take around 30 minutes to load a grab truck, plus a little bit extra to get the vehicle in the right place to pick up the waste.

To ensure quick and efficient removal of your waste, we recommend putting it out in the open, away from low hanging electrical cables or trees.
Can a grab lorry reach over a fence?

Grab lorries can reach up to 8 metres over fences and walls, as long as our operatives are able to park the lorry alongside them and they can see the materials from the grab platform.

Complete and utter waste of time. Called on the supposed day of delivery at 10am as skip had not yet arrived, nor had I... had any communication since booking online. Each person I spoke to simply didn't have a clue as to what was going on, didn't have my name, address or number, couldn't find my booking (despite taking payment) and that I'd have to wait for the Transport Manager after making 3 calls. I'd booked the skip days in advance and booked a day off work to complete a project. Finally after 3 calls, they'd located said skip but couldn't give me a time of delivery, stating "some time in the afternoon". I duly cancelled, called around other businesses and had a skip delivered within the hour. Won't be using again.read more

I booked a skip on a Sunday for next-day delivery which was a bank holiday. I received an email from Jon immediately... after booking letting me know that it might be a couple of days later owing to the impact of Covid-19 which was totally understandable. 07.01 and the skip truck comes up the street on a weekend, no consideration from the driver whilst loading revving the... old diesel truck unnecessarily high waking literally everybody up in the street... Used them a few times now:Skips: Dropped off an hour after booking late on a Friday. Picked up first thing Monday... morning. Their top soil is a BARGAIN! And extremely good quality. Aggregates:- slightly pricier than others, but with the free delivery, even on a single bag, this makes up for it and is probably why. (Others want 15quid to deliver)All in all, I personally can't really fault them!read more
